We have an opening for a Donor Relations Manager in the Development Department! The Donor Relations Manager is responsible for developing and implementing engagement and fundraising strategies to enhance and grow revenue with major donors. This individual will assemble teams and lead strategic development efforts to build donor loyalty and draw in new major donor prospects.

This position is exempt with an anticipated schedule of 40 hours per week. This position does qualify for participation in the OHS benefits package.  This position does not provide relocation assistance.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Using the most effective team possible, takes a leadership role in soliciting new and upgrading current individual gifts with personal contact and customized proposals.
  2. Acquires and maintains a detailed understanding of OHS programs, facilities, and fundraising initiatives to identify and customize proposals that meet individual donor interests.
  3. Provides engagement and recognition strategies and logistical leadership in the planning for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, appreciation, and stewardship of members and potential major donors.

JOB DUTIES

  • Plans and executes a variety of small and medium sized stewardship events ranging from 15 to 400 people. This includes event concept, program planning, budget management, and coordination, logistics, designing and mailing invitations, volunteer management, vendor relationships, and collaboration with fundraising and program colleagues.
  • Actively engages donors and prospects through special access experiences with history.  Provides consistent follow-up pre and post engagement to secure commitments or move relationships forward.
  • Identifies, proposes, and implements development processes, procedures, and improvements regarding donor data management.
  • Presents fundraising initiatives to individuals and small groups with confidence, clarity, and knowledge of goals and objectives.
  • Helps identify prospects and prepare sponsorship requests for corporate and individual donors for special projects such as exhibitions and the Mark O. Hatfield Historians Forum.
  • Tracks status of pledges (verbal and booked) and create invoices and pledge reminders to ensure timely payment.
  • Ensures fulfillment of promised benefits and recognition of donors.
  • Utilizes Raiser's Edge to identify prospects and create mailing lists; maintaining RSVP lists for events; producing a variety of thank you notes, proposals, letters, and reports.
  • Documents key conversations with donors and other pertinent information into Raiser's Edge.
  • Provides back-up to Database and Donor Services Specialist and Annual Giving Manager as needed during the busy seasons or in their absence; tasks such as helping donors renew their memberships or make a donation over the phone; resolving customer service issues including frustrations with online ticketing systems or lost membership cards; answering inquiries about programs and events.
  • Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with coworkers, visitors and volunteers and including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
  • Respectfully takes direction from supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required education, skills and experience for this position include but are not limited to:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and five years related experience and/or training in donor management and sales; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • This position requires a strong customer service focus; a positive attitude; temperance, excellent verbal, and time management skills; the ability to continually handle multiple tasks effectively; and the ability to problem solve and adapt easily to changing priorities.
  • Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize and organize a diverse and changing workload with attention to detail; to work effectively and positively under pressure; to be proactive; to demonstrate initiative and foster positive and collaborative relationships with colleagues within the Development Department and throughout the Oregon Historical Society.
  • Excellent proofreading skills required.
  • This position requires excellent written communication skills necessary for producing correspondence, invitations, thank you letters, memorandums, etc.
  • The position requires the ability to critically think, analyze, and interpret data in order to offer proactive suggestions and ideas to increase efficiency and resolve problems; to use tact and diplomacy in internal and external interactions; to understand and maintain confidentiality on sensitive matters; to use mature judgment in dealing with donors and departmental matters.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Job requires specialized computer skills.  Must be adept at using various applications including database, spreadsheet, report writing, project management, graphics, word processing, presentation creation/editing, communicate by e-mail and use scheduling software.  

  • This position requires the ability to handle data entry quickly and accurately; has a high level of mastery of Microsoft Office as Excel and Word are used daily, and Raiser's Edge, particularly queries and reports. Experience with Adobe products especially Indesign is a plus.
  • This position requires the ability to quickly master and analyze how to best utilize the multiple, internal databases.
  • Must be capable of creating RSVP lists, reports, spreadsheets and emails and tracking event impact of stewardship and fundraising efforts. Knowledge of Greater Giving database and experience with Adobe Indesign is a preferred but not required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Able to provide sufficient documentation to establish eligibility to work in the United States. Valid Driver's License.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Requires evening and weekend work at varying frequency throughout the year; it is not uncommon to work outside the 8:30 am to 5 pm workday 1-5 times a month. Ability to work extended hours under pressure when immediate funding opportunities arise and travel if necessary.
